New Details for Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas Announced

We are finally learning more details about Royal Caribbean’s third Icon class ship, Legend of the Seas. Since Paul and I are currently booked on Legend out of Fort Lauderdale in February of 2027, we have been eagerly waiting to learn about the next installment of our favorite class of ship. Let’s dig into all the details that have been announced so far.

1. Ship & Deployment Overview

Name & Class

  • Legend of the Seas is the third ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon class—joining Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas.
  • The name “Legend of the Seas” revives a classic name in Royal Caribbean history. The original Legend of the Seas was a Vision-class ship launched by Royal Caribbean in 1995 and sold to Marella Cruises in 2017

Construction Milestones

  • In July 2025, the 327‑ton AquaDome was installed atop the ship — a significant engineering feat.
  • On September 2, 2025, the ship “floated out” for the first time at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, marking a major milestone in her build.
  • As of now, the ship remains under outfitting and finishing ahead of its debut.

Itineraries & Debut

  • Summer 2026 (Mediterranean): Legend will sail from Barcelona and Rome (Civitavecchia) on 7‑night Western Mediterranean cruises.

  • Winter 2026 onward (Caribbean): After summer, the ship transitions to Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades) offering 6‑night Western Caribbean and 8‑night Southern Caribbean sailings, including stops at Perfect Day at CocoCay.

  • The very first Fort Lauderdale sail is slated for November 11, 2026, a 3‑night “Perfect Day Getaway.”
  • The ship is expected to remain based in Fort Lauderdale at least through April 2027.

2. Thrills & Experiences: What’s New (and Elevated)

Legend of the Seas builds on the Icon class blueprint but with upgrades and additions aimed at delivering more.

Category 6 Waterpark

  • Legend features Category 6, billed as the largest waterpark at sea—with six record‑breaking slides.
  • Among the attractions:
    • The first open freefall slide at sea
    • The first mat racing duo on a ship: Storm Chasers or Hurricane Hunter
    • Storm Surge raft slides included as part of the mix

Crown’s Edge

  • Crown’s Edge is a dramatic ropes/skywalk course: guests traverse a narrow walkway high above the ocean, with unpredictable collapses and dangling challenges.

Pools & Chill Zones

  • The ship offers seven pools, ten whirlpools, and a variety of “neighborhoods” for relaxation.
  • Highlights include:
    • Royal Bay – largest pool at sea (multi-use)
    • Water’s Edge – family‑friendly pool area
    • Hideaway – adults‑only suspended infinity pool and chill zone
    • Swim & Tonic – swim‑up bar feature

Neighborhood Enhancements & New Venues

  • Many fan‑favorite spaces are being reimagined, with refreshed styling, elevated food & drink, and upgraded ambiance.
  • Hollywoodland Supper Club: A new multi‑course, theatrical dining experience with live jazz, inspired by the golden age of Hollywood.
  • AquaDome Market: A day‑and late‑night food hall with five new food stands, giving more flexible choices for bites throughout the day. AquaDome Market will feature a new Juice Bar.
  • Royal Railway: Legend Station: An immersive dining experience tied into a Silk Routes theme

Entertainment & Spectacles

  • A marquee Broadway show at sea: Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is set to debut onboard Legend.
Photos Courtesy of Royal Caribbean Cruise Line
  • Guests can expect live music, lounges in every neighborhood, and captivating entertainment throughout.

Legend of the Seas is more than just another ship — it’s clear Royal Caribbean aims to push boundaries again. The Mediterranean debut in summer 2026 followed by Caribbean sailings from Fort Lauderdale later that year ensures a broad appeal for a variety of travelers.

Five Reasons to Take an Alaska Cruise

When most people think of cruises, they picture sunny skies, tropical beaches, and swaying palm trees. But what if your next cruise could take you somewhere truly unique, offering a mix of rugged wilderness, majestic landscapes, and experiences you won’t find anywhere else? That’s what an Alaska cruise is all about. Here are five compelling reasons why an Alaska cruise deserves a spot on your bucket list.

1. Stunning Scenery

Alaska’s landscapes are nothing short of breathtaking. From towering glaciers calving into icy waters to awe-inspiring fjords and snow-capped mountain ranges, the natural beauty here is unparalleled. Imagine gliding through a beautiful fjord, where massive ice structures sparkle in the sunlight, or watching the sunset over the Inside Passage, an intricate maze of waterways. Each view feels like a postcard come to life, making every moment onboard unforgettable. Camera in hand, you’ll find endless opportunities to capture jaw-dropping photographs—this is nature at its most dramatic.

2. Mouthwatering Food

Alaska isn’t just a feast for the eyes—it’s a feast for your taste buds as well! Cruise ships serving this region often feature locally sourced specialties, such as wild-caught Alaskan salmon, fresh crab, and halibut straight from the icy Pacific waters. Pair your meal with a craft beer or cocktail inspired by the region, and you’re in for a culinary adventure. Some cruises even offer themed dining experiences, like seafood nights or live cooking demos showcasing Alaskan fare you can’t find elsewhere. It’s not just food—it’s a celebration of Alaska’s rich bounty. Some of our favorites? Anything at Beak Restaurant in Sika, AK, rockfish tacos at Deckhand Dave’s in Juneau, AK, and the fried fish at Alaska Fish House in Ketchikan, AK.

3. Unique Excursions

The off-ship experiences on an Alaska cruise are unlike any you’d find by the beach. Think dog sledding across pristine glaciers, kayaking in serene bays surrounded by towering peaks, or taking a scenic train ride through the rugged landscapes of the Yukon. Feeling adventurous? Try a helicopter tour that drops you onto a remote glacier or go zip lining through the lush forests of Juneau. These excursions are designed to immerse you in the heart of Alaska’s wilderness, offering hands-on adventures that feel like something out of a wilderness documentary.

4. Abundant Wildlife

An Alaska cruise is a wildlife enthusiast’s dream. These icy waters and vast forests are home to some of North America’s most iconic animals. Spot playful sea otters, massive humpback whales breaching in the distance, or orcas slicing through the waves. Keep your binoculars handy for bald eagles soaring overhead and bears wandering the shorelines, especially during the salmon run. On land excursions, you might even glimpse moose, wolves, or mountain goats. The opportunity to see such diverse wildlife in its natural habitat is one of the true highlights of this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

5. Rich History and Culture

Beyond its natural wonders, Alaska has a vibrant history that comes alive on a cruise. Visit charming towns like Skagway, where Gold Rush-era saloons and wooden boardwalks transport you back in time, or explore Sitka’s blend of Russian and Native Alaskan heritage. Many excursions include cultural experiences like totem pole carving demonstrations, storytelling sessions with Alaska Native guides, or visits to museums that showcase the state’s fascinating history. An Alaska cruise isn’t just visually stunning—it’s also an enriching experience that deepens your understanding of this remarkable region.

Plan Your Alaska Adventure Today

An Alaska cruise is far more than a voyage—it’s an immersive adventure that combines unparalleled natural beauty, unforgettable cuisine, incredible wildlife, exciting excursions, and a dose of history and culture. Whether you’re a seasoned cruiser looking for a refreshing change of scenery or someone seeking an adventure that will stay with you forever, Alaska has something extraordinary to offer.

General Tips & Advice

Our Top Ten Items to Pack on Your Next Cruise

Preparing for a cruise involves more than just picking the right outfits and making sure you have the essentials. To help make your trip smooth, organized, and enjoyable, here’s a list of must-have items you might not have thought about to pack for your adventure on the seas.

1. Magnetic Hooks

Ship cabins are often short on storage space. Magnetic hooks give you extra hanging options for jackets, hats, bags, and even bathing suits. Since most cabin walls are metal, these little gadgets can be a game-changer.

2. Collapsible Hamper

Keep your cabin tidy by bringing a collapsible hamper. It’s perfect for storing dirty clothes and folds flat when not in use, saving you valuable space.

3. Cash for Tips

While onboard expenses may already include gratuities, having small bills for tipping porters, guides, or room service staff can come in handy.

4. Reusable Water Bottle

Staying hydrated is essential. Bring your own reusable water bottle, and refill it at water stations on the ship. It’s eco-friendly and convenient for excursions, too.

5. Allotted Wine

Most cruise lines allow passengers to bring a limited amount of wine or champagne. Check your cruise line’s specific policy to enjoy a bottle of your favorite wine and save on drink prices!

6. Corkscrew

If you’re bringing wine, don’t forget a small corkscrew. Some cruise lines charge an uncorking fee, but having your own can avoid unnecessary costs.

7. Luggage Tracker (like Airtag)

Ensure peace of mind by placing a luggage tracker, like Apple’s Airtag, in your suitcase. It’s a handy tool in case your luggage is misplaced during boarding or at baggage claim at the airport.

8. International Travel Adapter

Cruise cabins may not always have enough power outlets, and they may differ depending on the cruise’s region. An international travel adapter ensures that all your devices stay charged.

9. Towel Clips

Protect your towel from blowing away in the ocean breeze. Towel clips secure your towels to deck chairs, saving you the hassle of chasing them around.

10. Door Décor

Personalize your cabin door with fun decorations, like magnets or banners. Not only does it add a touch of personality, but it’ll also make locating your cabin on lengthy hallways much easier.

With this packing list in hand, you’ll be prepared for a stress-free and enjoyable cruise. Whether it’s keeping your cabin organized or effortlessly lounging on deck, these items will have you covered from start to finish.

Cruise Lines General News & Updates

The Increase in Juneau Dockage Fees: What it Means for Cruise Tourism

Cruise lines docking at Juneau’s city-owned facilities will face significantly higher dockage fees starting in 2026. According to city officials, these changes will roughly double the amount cruise lines currently pay, bringing millions in additional revenue to the city. The Juneau Assembly recently approved the change unanimously.

New Regulation

The new regulation applies only to large cruise ships and shifts the fee structure from tonnage and vessel length to passenger capacity. Alix Pierce, Juneau’s Visitor Industry Director, stated that the updated fees make the city’s rates more competitive with private docks in the area and other ports in Southeast Alaska.

The adjustments are expected to substantially increase revenue. Last season, the city collected approximately $2.5 million in dockage fees; with these changes, that figure is projected to nearly double to about $5 million annually. These funds will contribute to the city’s Docks and Harbors enterprise fund, which offers more flexibility in how the revenue is utilized compared to other cruise-related charges.

Juneau currently owns two of the four cruise ship docks nearest to Marine Park. Meanwhile, the Assembly has also approved the development of another private dock, further expanding docking options for cruise lines. Pierce noted that cruise companies had been made aware of the forthcoming changes and are unlikely to resist.

Additionally, the city’s marine passenger fees, used for specific visitor-related projects under a settlement agreement with the Cruise Lines International Association Alaska, will remain unaffected by this adjustment. City port director Carl Uchytil emphasized that the dockage fees offer fewer restrictions, giving the city broader avenues for investment.

Source: KTOO

Effects on Cruise Passengers

This increase in dockage fees is likely to have a direct impact on cruise passengers. With the raised fees, cruise lines will likely pass on the additional costs to their customers, resulting in higher ticket prices for cruises that make stops in Juneau. Since Juneau is a staple on most Alaskan itineraries, this could potentially discourage some tourists from choosing an Alaska cruise, as they may opt for cheaper options.

Disney Cruise Line - Disney Wish
Cruise Lines Disney Cruise Line General News & Updates

Is Disney Planning to Sail Year-Round from Galveston, Texas Starting in 2027?

A recent city council meeting with the Galveston Wharves Board of Trustees may have just dropped a major hint about the future of Disney Cruise Line operations in Texas. While nothing has been confirmed by Disney just yet, remarks made during the meeting strongly suggest that year-round Disney sailings could soon be a reality out of Galveston starting in 2027.

Rodger E. Rees, Port Director and CEO of Galveston Wharves, stated during a discussion about the Port’s updated Master Plan:
“Disney is expanding to full-time here in Galveston starting in ’27.”
He went on to say:
“They’re putting a lot of money into that, and because of that… I believe what they’re planning on doing is bringing in… there’s a new ship. I don’t know if you recall the news that they bought a ship out of bankruptcy… it’s a bigger ship. That’s what they’re talking about bringing here.”

Is the Disney Adventure Heading to Texas?

That “bigger ship” could very well be the Disney Adventure. Originally known as the Global Dream, this ship was acquired by Disney Cruise Line out of bankruptcy during the pandemic. The ship is currently undergoing a full Disney-style reimagine and is scheduled to begin sailing in December 2025 out of Singapore on 3- and 4-night voyages.

Those sailings in Singapore are currently scheduled through September 2026. After that? Disney hasn’t confirmed its next move—but the Galveston news certainly makes you wonder. Could the Disney Adventure be headed to the Gulf Coast as part of Disney’s expanded presence?

A Growing Focus on the Western Caribbean

This move would align with a broader trend we’re seeing in the cruise industry. Royal Caribbean recently unveiled a massive Western Caribbean expansion, including its new Perfect Day at Mexico and a lineup of Royal Beach Clubs designed to enhance Western itineraries.

Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point
Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point

Disney seems to be following a similar trajectory. If they’re eyeing Galveston for year-round service, that could signal even bigger plans in the region.

Could a New Disney Destination Be Next?

Let’s take this one step further—could Disney be planning a third private destination somewhere in the Western Caribbean to support this expansion? With the popularity of Castaway Cay and the recent opening of Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Disney add another island to its lineup. “Castaway Cay Cozumel,” anyone?

We’ll have to wait and see what officially gets announced, but for now, this Galveston news has certainly sparked excitement—and speculation.

Are you excited about the possibility of year-round Disney cruises from Galveston? Do you think the Disney Adventure could be headed to Texas? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below or join the conversation in our Cruising Compass Facebook Group!
